As the Director of Media Relations for the University of Puget Sound, Veronica is dedicated to promoting the university and its community involvement. But her dedication extends far beyond her professional role.
After returning to Tacoma from Idaho, Veronica was eager to give back to the city she loves. It was through a LinkedIn connection that she discovered the Tacoma Tool Library and immediately felt a connection to its mission. Impressed by the board’s commitment to the community, she joined as a volunteer.
Volunteering at the Tacoma Tool Library has not only been rewarding but has also expanded her personal knowledge, “I have learned so much about tools! When I first started volunteering, I could barely tell the difference between a hammer and a mallet. Now, I feel much more confident when doing work around the house because I have a better understanding of what tools to use for a project and I know where to go if I have questions.”
Veronica enjoys introducing new members to the tool library and witnessing their excitement as they discover this valuable community resource. She takes pride in being part of something that makes a tangible difference in the lives of many, “I love knowing I am part of something that is vital to so many people in the area.”
She recently repurposed an old TV stand, a project that wouldn’t have been possible without the knowledge and tools she gained from volunteering, “I recently repurposed an old TV stand that was gifted to me many years ago. It needed a little work, but thanks to my time volunteering for the library I was able to walk into Home Depot fully confident, knowing exactly what I needed to sand, paint, seal, and install new nobs for the drawers. It was a small project, but it was the first time I did everything on my own.”
Tacoma’s natural beauty and its genuine people have made it a special place for Veronica. Her involvement with the Tacoma Tool Library is just one way she’s giving back to the community she calls home.
