Volunteer Spotlights

Spotlight on Marena

Marena, a lifelong Seattle resident who has called Tacoma home for the past three years, was drawn to the Tacoma Tool Library as a way to connect with her community. She was immediately captivated by the concept of the sharing economy, “I think it’s so neat how we can pool our resources and collectively we end up with an abundance of tools for any project imaginable!”.

As a tool librarian, she enjoys interacting with people from all walks of life, learning about their projects. Marena’s calm vibes can most often be found at the reservations table. With fellow volunteers Marena’s is a great conversationalist and has helped the busy season fly by. Her thoughtfulness and deadpan humour are as esteemed as her dedication and thorough work.

Beyond the practical benefits, volunteering at the tool library has been personally rewarding. As she says, “I love that it gets me out of the house and gives me the chance to interact with people who are building and fixing things,” she quips. Volunteering at the Tacoma Tool Library, other than improving her ability to differentiate between various types of saws, keeps her inspired.
