Tacoma Tool Library Blog

Gary first discovered the Tacoma Tool Library online while researching local community groups. Drawn to the idea of weekly Fix-it Nights, he decided to visit the Tacoma Public Library and see what it was all about. As a self-described, “lifelong, incurable, fixer”, he immediately felt a connection to the community and began volunteering to assist […]

Deb Derylak (she/her/hers) has been volunteering on a monthly basis with Tacoma Tool Library since September 2022 for over 80 hours! She volunteers as a Tool Librarian and a Tool Cataloger, helping members with tool loans and returns (“answering questions as best I can – I’m always learning something new from the Tool Fixer volunteers and staff!”) and helping to keep the tool inventory organized and easily […]

The Tool Library is led by an incredible cohort of women. Tori Brewster blesses us every day with her/their humor, intelligence, and dedication! From fundraising, serving as a board member, and open hours, Tori brings a lot to the table, and we all are all the better for it. Thanks, Tori, for all you offer, your enthusiasm, and for making the Tool Library a better place to visit and participate in!

Sharayah at work
Sharayah Kinney has been with the Tool Library from its inception, running the gamut of nonprofit responsibilities: board member, fundraising, serving during open hours and inventory days, and, for the past couple of years, serving as chair of our volunteer community board. Sharayah is a perfect example of commitment to the Tool Library’s mission and service to its members, and a big reason why the Tool Library is so successful! Be sure to take a moment when you see Sharayah
David Schingeck joined forces with us earlier this year, eager to support the Tool Library’s mission. With a wealth of general tool and trades skills knowledge, David continues to offer invaluable volunteer support during open hours and works diligently behind the scenes with our inventory crew and fundraising committee. Fun fact: he’s also working on constructing an Accessory Dwelling Unit… one of Tacoma’s first under new permitting ordinances! We have a lot to learn from David, and we thank him
